Do you masturbate?  Are you male or female?

What is masturbation?  Well, the official definition is :

Masturbation is the self-stimulation of the genitals to achieve sexual arousal and pleasure, usually to the point of orgasm (sexual climax). It is commonly done by touching, stroking or massaging the penis or clitoris until an orgasm is achieved. Some women also use stimulation of the vagina to masturbate or use “sex toys,” such as a vibrator.

What do men use?  Well, there are many things available these days but an all time favorite of many men is one of the Tenga products which enclose the penis like a sleeve and give incredible sensations to help you achieve climax.

OK, so who masturbates and how often?

Well, just about everybody masturbates at some time, either often, or seldom – but everybody does it!

Masturbation is extremely common behavior and it makes not difference whether you are in a settled relationship or one your own. In one national study, 95% of males and 89% of females have reported that they have masturbated. Masturbation is the first sexual act experienced by most males and females and in young children, masturbation is a normal part of the growing child’s exploration of his or her body. Most people continue to masturbate in adulthood, and many do so throughout their lives – no matter of their age or experiences.

Why do you masturbate?

Everyone likes to feel good so in addition to the feeling of well being, masturbation is a good way of relieving the sexual tension that builds up over time.  This applies especially to people who don’t have partners or if their partners are not able to satisfy their needs.  In these days of AIDS and other SID’s, masturbation also is a safe alternative for people who do not want to find themselves pregnant and/or infected with a SID.  Of course there are also times when a man will need to give a semen sample for infertility testing or sperm donation and when sexual dysfunction is a problem for a person, masturbation of often suggested by a sex therapist to allow a person to experience an orgasm (women) or to delay its arrival (men).

Is it Normal to Masturbate?

Many years ago it was regarded as a perversion and a sign of a mental problem to masturbate but these days masturbation is regarded as a normal, healthy sexual activity that is pleasant, fulfilling, acceptable and safe. It is a great way to experience sexual pleasure and can be done throughout your life.

Masturbation does become a problem when it causes issues with your sexual activity with your partner, is practised in public, or causes significant distress to the person. It may cause distress if it is done compulsively and interferes with your daily life and activities.

Is Masturbation Harmful?

It has been suggested that masturbation improves your sexual health and sexual relationships.  Masturbation allows you to work out what is erotically pleasing to you and then you can share this information with your partner.  Mutual masturbation between partners can also help you to discover more satisfying techniques and add to your intimacy.
